Earlier in the year when I was planning Autumn carnival outfits, I discovered a new found love of shiny patent leather fabric. It seems many other designers have since discovered this love, after seeing many brands release pre Spring Summer styles donning this fabric in the past few weeks. Continue reading

The last few years, I’ve been a big fan of the one shoulder top trend, as it pushes the boundaries a little with Fashions On The Field. I’ve worn this trend in both Spring and Autumn Carnivals with much success, as it is that perfect transeasonal silhouette and can be changed up with different fabrics and textures. The statement sleeve is now also trending, which I think is the perfect partner for the off the shoulder. Continue reading

Yesterday was the big day – The Myer National Fashions On The Field final! I was so lucky to be able to experience this moment for a second time, after coming 2nd Runner Up in the 2014 Myer FOTF National final. I never thought I would get this opportunity again! Continue reading

This year the Myer FOTF competition had a change up, the NSW State Final was going to be held off the race course at Coogee Pavilion! There was much conversation amongst the racing community, as The Everest – Sydney’s biggest race day was also on that day and which FOTF event would you pick. Or would would you do both!?
I wasn’t planning on going up to Sydney for any of the events, however my girlfriend Brodie, who won the Myer FOTF competition in 2014 suggested I come up for a fun weekend with her. So on the Tuesday night, I booked last minute flights to Sydney! Continue reading

This season is all about navy! For someone who lives in black most days, I’ve really enjoyed the change up navy has brought to my life. Finally I can justify my shopping addiction as I can wear outfits day-to-day and for racing.
Now I know what you’re thinking… Navy is a little boring!? You are wrong. When you pair it back with a pop colour, navy becomes a real statement and will stand out amongst the other dark Winter looks. I am especially loving mint, fuchsia, wine or white teamed back with navy, as these colours make the navy pop and will translate from Winter racing through to Spring.

The racing hair do is fast becoming more important and sometimes the difference in a winning look. It is the final element to an outfit, that most people don’t consider until the day of the event, but can stand you ahead of the pack and complete the look you’ve worked so hard to create. On Thursday evening, Caulfield kick started their Spring Carnival with the annual Spotlight Members Millinery Evening. This year, Jill and Jack, Louise McDonald, Kim Wiebenga, Felicity Northeast, Studio Aniss, Philip Rhodes, Peter Jago and the Human Chameleon were showcased in a runway show and pop up market.
When I arrived, the champagne was already flowing and it was great to see people walking around with hat boxes. This event has always been a favourite of mine as it’s fantastic to see all my favourite milliners in one room and to try on all different shapes and sizes. For me, I try to plan my outfits first and then pair back a headpiece, however this night inspires me and I often work back from the headpiece to create the dream look. Continue reading

Today I experienced something one can only dream of – attending Royal Ascot. Thanks to Melbourne Racing Club, I won a once in a lifetime experience to attend not just one but two days at Royal Ascot as part of an 8 day trip to London. Continue reading

Despite the cool weather, celebrities and punters donned their best black and white for AAMI Derby Day on Saturday. To start of the day, I had the pleasure of attending the Cecconi’s Derby Day breakfast with my good friend Charlotte from Winston and Willow. This was a perfect start to the day before heading out to the track.
As a Fashions on the Field spectator this year, I had the fun task of mingling with the Myer Fashions on the Field National finalists whilst watching the first round of the Womenswear Victorian finals and the Menswear competition. Continue reading

One of the most asked questions from people heading to the races is “how do you last an entire day at the races in heels?”
Most of the time I regret my choice of shoe but I soldier on through the day before hobbling home, cursing myself for deciding I had to wear those shoes whilst I hobble around for the remainder of the week.
If you aren’t competing in the Fashions on the Field, it’s all about shoes that are comfortable but also allow you to head to dinner or an after party without it looking like you are taking part in some form of a strange fire walking procession.
Here are my best tips to get you through the carnival:
