On Thursday evening, Caulfield kick started their Spring Carnival with the annual Spotlight Members Millinery Evening. This year, Jill and Jack, Louise McDonald, Kim Wiebenga, Felicity Northeast, Studio Aniss, Philip Rhodes, Peter Jago and the Human Chameleon were showcased in a runway show and pop up market.
When I arrived, the champagne was already flowing and it was great to see people walking around with hat boxes. This event has always been a favourite of mine as it’s fantastic to see all my favourite milliners in one room and to try on all different shapes and sizes. For me, I try to plan my outfits first and then pair back a headpiece, however this night inspires me and I often work back from the headpiece to create the dream look.
The trends I saw emerging this year was clearly colour – shades of blue, pink and red and the shapes were bigger and better. I also loved seeing floral arrangements become more moden and structured which is definitely my style and metallics featuring heavily. There was definitely a shape to suit everyone this season and you will have no worry trying to find a piece to pair back with those unusual colours.
Here are some of the amazing pieces that caught my eye
Last years addition of a runway parade was a huge hit and I was excited to see it on the schedule this year. It’s fantastic seeing the pieces on the models and also the fashions from Chadstone Shopping Centre paired back. 10 pieces definitely caught my eye, here are my favourites.
