    • What is shiny and new? This trend is!

Posted at 7:21 am by seekimber, on August 7, 2019

Earlier in the year when I was planning Autumn carnival outfits, I discovered a new found love of shiny patent leather fabric. It seems many other designers have since discovered this love, after seeing many brands release pre Spring Summer styles donning this fabric in the past few weeks. • Show some shoulder this Spring

Posted at 1:59 pm by seekimber, on July 8, 2019

The last few years, I’ve been a big fan of the one shoulder top trend, as it pushes the boundaries a little with Fashions On The Field. I’ve worn this trend in both Spring and Autumn Carnivals with much success, as it is that perfect transeasonal silhouette and can be changed up with different fabrics and textures. The statement sleeve is now also trending, which I think is the perfect partner for the off the shoulder. Continue reading →

    • Minimalist headwear for Spring

Posted at 4:30 am by seekimber, on September 16, 2015

      IMG_2568

With Spring Carnival fast approaching, it’s time to start planning outfits and most importantly headwear. Milliners are booked out sometimes months in advance for extravagant custom headpieces, I am one of those people but this isn’t for everyone.

When I’m not competing in Fashions on the Field, I like to wear minimalist pieces that are easy to match with last minute dresses and are low maintenance throughout the day at the track. This season, we are seeing crowns and headbands taking on a more refined and delicate form, which are really feminine and perfect to pair back with this seasons 70’s trend.

Here are my picks ranging from $12 to $795. Continue reading →

    • The comfortable shoes you need this Carnival

Posted at 9:53 am by seekimber, on October 15, 2014

One of the most asked questions from people heading to the races is “how do you last an entire day at the races in heels?”

Most of the time I regret my choice of shoe but I soldier on through the day before hobbling home, cursing myself for deciding I had to wear those shoes whilst I hobble around for the remainder of the week.

If you aren’t competing in the Fashions on the Field, it’s all about shoes that are comfortable but also allow you to head to dinner or an after party without it looking like you are taking part in some form of a strange fire walking procession.

Here are my best tips to get you through the carnival:

    • The pastels you need

Posted at 11:14 am by seekimber, on September 3, 2014

Now that Spring has sprung it is time to ditch the dark winter tones and go for something a little more playful and sweet. Its all about pastels.

This season sugary sweet hues pink, lavender, frosted blue, coral and buttercup yellow have been gracing the spring runways, making for an ultra feminine look that I can’t get enough of.

    • Ab Fab – 5 ways to wear the crop top

Posted at 8:50 am by seekimber, on August 28, 2014

With the crop, twin sets and midriff cut outs becoming a growing trend, the question is should this trend transcend onto the racecourse?

Lara Bingle and Nadia Bartell were daring enough last year to try the trend at Flemington, so who this year will embrace the look?  The key to rocking this look in 2014, is to make sure you balance out the crop with a high waisted skirt to the knee or longer. Think cute, flirty and a little bit sexy. A full bare midriff will not be a winner on the race course, especially if we can see a bellybutton – we don’t want to look like Britney circa 2001.

From box tops, lace and matchy sets – This is how I would wear the trend.

    • Caulfield kicks off their Spring Carnival

Posted at 1:20 am by seekimber, on August 21, 2014

This week Caulfield kicked off their Spring Carnival in spectacular style, holding their annual Members Millinery evening. This event has always been a favourite of mine, as I have the opportunity to view the latest creations from all of my favourite milliners, whilst sipping on a flute of champagne. And even better, the chance to try on all the new styles without the need to travel all around Melbourne.

    • Spring into Myer

Posted at 7:51 am by seekimber, on August 6, 2014

This week it was Myer’s turn to wow us and they certainly did, with fun cotton candy hair and gorgeous celebrities Jen Hawkins, Kris Smith, Kate Peck and Nicole Trunfio gracing the runway.

    • The change of season is here

Posted at 10:23 pm by seekimber, on July 31, 2014

The big Australian retailers – Myer and David Jones really set the tone for the Spring Carnival and what to expect for the coming season. Prior to these shows, I spend hours on style sites searching the latest runway trends and picking what I think will transcend into Australian fashion the following season. I hang out for these parades and lookbooks, not only for the excitement that Winter is finally coming to an end, but to see what we can expect from the celebrities at the racecourse this season.

    • Your 10 shoes for Spring

Posted at 10:24 am by seekimber, on July 10, 2014

Carrie Bradshaw pretty much sums me up ‘I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!’ Its safe to say the shoe shopping for racing is my favourite part – finally an excuse to justify my shoe addiction.
