This season is all about navy! For someone who lives in black most days, I’ve really enjoyed the change up navy has brought to my life. Finally I can justify my shopping addiction as I can wear outfits day-to-day and for racing.
Now I know what you’re thinking… Navy is a little boring!? You are wrong. When you pair it back with a pop colour, navy becomes a real statement and will stand out amongst the other dark Winter looks. I am especially loving mint, fuchsia, wine or white teamed back with navy, as these colours make the navy pop and will translate from Winter racing through to Spring.

The racing hair do is fast becoming more important and sometimes the difference in a winning look. It is the final element to an outfit, that most people don’t consider until the day of the event, but can stand you ahead of the pack and complete the look you’ve worked so hard to create. Carnival Preview Day is definitely one of my favourite days, its the first of the festivity at Caulfield Racecourse and a great way to ease into the carnival. I started the day at my favourite salon – Heading Out Hair and Beauty in Fitzroy Street. They are the best in understanding racing hair and always create a fabulous do to compliment your headpiece.
This week we opted for a deconstructed french roll, which is classic but still a hot look this season. Stay tuned this week, for Heading Out’s top hair trends this race season, they will definitely have you sorted for the carnival.
Caulfield racing fashion has always be quite classic but with a modern twist – a look that is quite hard to achieve. Continue reading

The big Australian retailers – Myer and David Jones really set the tone for the Spring Carnival and what to expect for the coming season. Prior to these shows, I spend hours on style sites searching the latest runway trends and picking what I think will transcend into Australian fashion the following season. I hang out for these parades and lookbooks, not only for the excitement that Winter is finally coming to an end, but to see what we can expect from the celebrities at the racecourse this season.

Finding a new racing outfit can be hard. We often find ourselves searching boutiques and online stores, but we so often forget whats already at home, hidden in the back of the wardrobe. I’m sure you have some hidden gems if you rummage.. I sure did!

Finding the right racing outfit isn’t easy, let me tell you I’ve had my fair share of fails! From my mums vintage ruffle top (think the Seinfield pirate shirt) to a short dress with cape back.. Its safe to say I learnt the do’s and don’ts pretty quickly after attempting my second racing event. Here are some helpful hints that I learnt along the way.

Growing up, The Melbourne Cup carnival was the event on the social calendar. The TV coverage would be on all day and this is when I remember my first experience watching the girls walking the runway in the Fashions on the Field competition. The year I remember most, was when RMIT student, Sarah Schofield took out the prize. She was wearing an amazing unique black and white ‘pick up stick’ fascinator and had this beaming smile… she looked like an ad in Vogue.
A budding fashion student aspiring to study at RMIT, I thought I want to be that girl one day!
