Despite the cool weather, celebrities and punters donned their best black and white for AAMI Derby Day on Saturday. To start of the day, I had the pleasure of attending the Cecconi’s Derby Day breakfast with my good friend Charlotte from Winston and Willow. This was a perfect start to the day before heading out to the track.
As a Fashions on the Field spectator this year, I had the fun task of mingling with the Myer Fashions on the Field National finalists whilst watching the first round of the Womenswear Victorian finals and the Menswear competition.
The womenswear competiton never disappoints, with predominately white outfits taking front of stage this year. For months I had lusted over the white Toni Maticevski ‘Sanctuary’ gown and clearly two of my favourite competitors had also! The dress was a clear winner today, with both Em Scodellaro – Longines Elegant Lady of the Day and daily winner Brodie Worrell taking out the major prizes in this stunning gown. What I loved most, is that both ladies wore it their way, accessorising to suit their personality and looked completely different. At the end of the day, it’s about feeling fantastic and what represents you.
The Men’s Racewear Fashions on the Field Competition saw, of course many dapper gentlemen in glasses, hats and umbrellas to give their look that little point of difference. The competition this year was the best we have seen in a very long time, with the winners extremely hard to pick. There was, however a clear favourite in Peter Tran who was fitted out in a double breasted grey and lemon windowpane suit from Oscar Hunt with my good friend Michael Taylor taking home his first sash as Second Runner Up.
It was now time to relax and enjoy the amazing hospitality in the Myer FOTF enclosure. I had the pleasure of celebrating a successful day with many of my friends and despite the rain and chilly weather, we had an absolute blast. I can’t wait to do it all over again at Melbourne Cup Day.
