Today I experienced something one can only dream of – attending Royal Ascot. Thanks to Melbourne Racing Club, I won a once in a lifetime experience to attend not just one but two days at Royal Ascot as part of an 8 day trip to London.
I decided to leave my boyfriend back home and took my incredible Mum on this London adventure, since Fashions on the Field is our hobby together. Most weeks we send each other runway inspiration, drape ourselves with fabric to come up with the next outfit and laugh at the outfits that never make it out of the house. Today was my chance to spoil my Mum and attend Day 1 of Royal Ascot.
Walking into the grounds was breathtaking, the stadium is modern and you instantly feel a strong sense of English heritage. Men in their top hats and tails and women in beautiful millinery and conservative dresses. Royal Ascot is everything I imagined but bigger and better.
After exploring the grounds, we headed to the Royal Ascot Village Restaurant, where we attended a 3 course luncheon and Mad Hatters Tea Party. At 1:30pm, all food service stopped so we could head outside to welcome the Queen in the Royal Procession. It was so special being in the presence of Royalty, however I think the English were more interested in what colour the Queen would be wearing that day. Apparently people actually bet on what colour she will wear.. this is my kind of betting!
After the Royal Procession, we enjoyed the fabulous Mad Hatters Tea Party and prepared ourselves for the Singalong in the bandstand at 6pm.
Here are some photos of my fabulous experience.
