Today my Mum and I headed off to Royal Ascot for Day 5 of the event. I honestly don’t know how the Queen does it every day at the age of 89.. It took us 4 days to recover from Day 1!
The Friday and Saturday’s events were completely sold out so we were prepared for a long journey out to the track with our driver George. After 2 hours in the car, we were so excited to walk into the grounds again. Today were we dining in the Sandringham rooms, which faced out onto the track. This was perfect viewing to see our Aussie sprinter Brazen Beau in the Diamond Jubilee that afternoon.
After Day 1, we discovered that the best place to view the Queen’s Precession was overlooking the Viewers Circle so once we finished dessert we quickly headed outside to stake out a spot. We were extremely lucky to get a spot in the front row, literally 20 metres from the Queen. This is something many can only dream of!
After paying a visit to the Queen, I ventured to the Silver Ring to visit an old tennis friend who lives in London now. The Silver Ring is similar to the General Public and Young Members areas that we see in Australia so catching up with Tom proved rather difficult especially when there were large music tents, TV viewing areas, food marquees and seating areas along the track with thousands of people everywhere! This place was crazy and looked like a lot of fun. Eventually we managed to catch up for a drink and it was great to experience another area of Ascot.
After realising the time, we quickly made our way back to the marquee to see Brazen Beau hopefully take out the Diamond Jubilee. Unfortunately Craig Williams and Brazen Beau didn’t reach the winners post first, second was still just as exciting, especially with the amazing view of the track.
After the final race, the fun really began with flooding rains hitting Ascot. Umbrellas were completely sold out, leaving us with the glamorous plastic ponchos and puddles in the shoes. We had many laughs trying to make it out of the grounds through giant puddles and people running everywhere.. this was one of my highlights of the day! Although the English weather found us, we weren’t going to let it rain on our parade!
