As the lead up for Flemington draws near, we all start going into overdrive hunting for outfits and headpieces to suit the days. It is always hard finding the right dress, but it’s equally as hard finding the right milliner. I like to shop around when it comes to millinery, as every milliner has their own unique style and specialities.
To make this process easier for you all this carnival, I’d like to cover off some of my favourite milliners in the coming weeks. Although many milliner’s have stopped taking custom orders, they do have many amazing pieces left for purchase – you just have to find the right style.
This week I would like to introduce my local Geelong milliner – Rebecca Share. Rebecca has won the prestigious MYER Fashions on the Field ‘Millinery Award’ back in 2011 and again last year placed ‘2nd Runner Up’. After seeing Rebecca’s amazing aqua collection this Spring, I knew she was the right milliner to create a headpiece to match my Caulfield Carnival outfit.
Bec’s style is very unique; its streamlined, big and a real statement. Here are my picks from her latest collection to suit each race day.
Derby Day
With black and white being the tradition of the day, these 2 pieces tick the boxes of classic and modern.
Melbourne Cup
Melbourne Cup to me screams colour, colour colour and bigger is definitely better. Both aqua and hot pink will stand out in the crowd this year.
Oaks Day
Oaks Day being ladies day, means elegant and sophistication. I am loving pastels this year with mint, lilac and cotton candy being my favourites for the day. Rebecca has made me a beautiful cotton candy piece this year that I can’t wait to wear.
Stakes Day
Stakes Day is colourful and fun. I love these two quirky pieces by Rebecca as they perfect for Stakes.
