    • Carnival Preview Day

Posted at 9:57 am by seekimber, on September 23, 2014

Carnival Preview Day is definitely one of my favourite days, its the first of the festivity at Caulfield Racecourse and a great way to ease into the carnival. I started the day at my favourite salon – Heading Out Hair and Beauty in Fitzroy Street. They are the best in understanding racing hair and always create a fabulous do to compliment your headpiece.

This week we opted for a deconstructed french roll, which is classic but still a hot look this season.  Stay tuned this week, for Heading Out’s top hair trends this race season, they will definitely have you sorted for the carnival.

Caulfield racing fashion has always be quite classic but with a modern twist – a look that is quite hard to achieve. Continue reading →

    • The Veil Reinvented

Posted at 10:58 am by seekimber, on September 14, 2014

The veil has always been a beautiful classic look for the races and it was bound to be reinvented at some point. Over the past two seasons, we’ve seen celebrities opting for a more subtle look than the traditional headpiece. The veil became the perfect choice.

From simple netting across the face, to bunny ears, bows and floral arrangements, the veil is here to stay this season. Nadia Bartel and Rebeccah Panozza worked the look this week at the Myer Spring Fashion launch and looked absolutely gorgeous. After some success with the look last year at Derby Day, I thought why not give it another go this year at Sofitel Girls Day Out. Continue reading →

    • The Culotte – Your new best friend

Posted at 9:01 am by seekimber, on September 8, 2014

My current fashion fixation is the Culotte. Not quite a skirt, not quite a pant – this fabulous floaty form is chic, a little bit sexy mixed with a hint of androgyny and my favourite look for this season.

It seems designers are having a similar love affair with culottes at the moment, with Balenciaga, Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler trying out the look this season. Even my favourite friends ASOS and Boohoo have jumped on board with their own cheap and chic versions.

This year I rocked the trend at Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, optioning for an all white look teamed with gold accessories. This look not only stood out in the crowd but was super comfortable. Gone are the days of the dreaded skirt getting caught up in the breeze!

Whilst playing around with Culottes, I learnt these 3 tricks: Continue reading →

    • The pastels you need

Posted at 11:14 am by seekimber, on September 3, 2014

Now that Spring has sprung it is time to ditch the dark winter tones and go for something a little more playful and sweet. Its all about pastels.

This season sugary sweet hues pink, lavender, frosted blue, coral and buttercup yellow have been gracing the spring runways, making for an ultra feminine look that I can’t get enough of.

    • Ab Fab – 5 ways to wear the crop top

Posted at 8:50 am by seekimber, on August 28, 2014

With the crop, twin sets and midriff cut outs becoming a growing trend, the question is should this trend transcend onto the racecourse?

Lara Bingle and Nadia Bartell were daring enough last year to try the trend at Flemington, so who this year will embrace the look?  The key to rocking this look in 2014, is to make sure you balance out the crop with a high waisted skirt to the knee or longer. Think cute, flirty and a little bit sexy. A full bare midriff will not be a winner on the race course, especially if we can see a bellybutton – we don’t want to look like Britney circa 2001.

From box tops, lace and matchy sets – This is how I would wear the trend.

    • Caulfield kicks off their Spring Carnival

Posted at 1:20 am by seekimber, on August 21, 2014

This week Caulfield kicked off their Spring Carnival in spectacular style, holding their annual Members Millinery evening. This event has always been a favourite of mine, as I have the opportunity to view the latest creations from all of my favourite milliners, whilst sipping on a flute of champagne. And even better, the chance to try on all the new styles without the need to travel all around Melbourne.

    • Orange is the new Black

Posted at 12:27 pm by seekimber, on August 13, 2014

Not only is it a great TV show but it certainly hits the mark of the ‘in’ colour for the season. Orange was a big favourite of mine last spring and it will continue this coming Spring Carnival. From a pop colour; lip, shoe or trimming to your key statement piece, add a little orange can brighten up any day at the racetrack.

Here are my picks for the season

    • Spring into Myer

Posted at 7:51 am by seekimber, on August 6, 2014

This week it was Myer’s turn to wow us and they certainly did, with fun cotton candy hair and gorgeous celebrities Jen Hawkins, Kris Smith, Kate Peck and Nicole Trunfio gracing the runway.

    • Winning Style

Posted at 10:25 am by seekimber, on August 3, 2014

It was this weekend last year that still brings a big smile to my face. It was the day I won the Myer Queensland State Final and won the experience of a life time.

I basically designed the outfit the week of the competition and I really had no expectations as I felt I looked a little more circus freak than chic! I tell you its always the last minute outfits you don’t feel confident in that seem to do well. I’m all for a last minute made rush and even buying accessories at the airport! Continue reading →

    • The change of season is here

Posted at 10:23 pm by seekimber, on July 31, 2014

The big Australian retailers – Myer and David Jones really set the tone for the Spring Carnival and what to expect for the coming season. Prior to these shows, I spend hours on style sites searching the latest runway trends and picking what I think will transcend into Australian fashion the following season. I hang out for these parades and lookbooks, not only for the excitement that Winter is finally coming to an end, but to see what we can expect from the celebrities at the racecourse this season.
