    • Stepping away from blocking

Posted at 6:00 pm by seekimber, on April 29, 2016

Recently I was having coffee with a girlfriend, chatting all things fashion and my upcoming FOTF competitions when she pointed out that most people know what to expect from my outfits. It was actually pretty true!

I love to block – whether it is colour or prints. I can’t get enough of it and I feel I have had some pretty good luck with this concept over the years. It did get me thinking though, I should try something new and push myself creatively. Continue reading →

    • The Finishing Touches

Posted at 12:27 pm by seekimber, on April 21, 2016

The racing hair do is fast becoming more important and sometimes the difference in a winning look. It is the final element to an outfit, that most people don’t consider until the day of the event, but can stand you ahead of the pack and complete the look you’ve worked so hard to create. • Relaxed racing at Caulfield

Posted at 7:00 pm by seekimber, on March 4, 2016

In terms of race wear, the word relaxed is quite foreign to me. When I go to the races, I like to go all out with big millinery and a statement dress so for me relaxed race wear was a bit of fun and a challenge. Continue reading →

    • All Black Everything

Posted at 12:03 am by seekimber, on September 28, 2015

This seasons new emerging trend is black on black – I know, as Anna Wintour would say, ‘Flowers for Spring, how revolutionary’. Black on Black really isn’t anything new, especially if you are from Melbourne, however it’s not a look we often see at the races.

Myer were the first to showcase this look back in August at the Spring/Summer Launch and it had my girlfriends and I talking. I don’t often wear black to the races, as it’s my time to shy away from my day to day blacks and go all out in colour but I couldn’t wait to put an outfit together.

    • Caulfield Racecourse hosts Spotlight Members Millinery Evening

Posted at 7:19 pm by seekimber, on September 22, 2015

On Thursday evening, Caulfield kick started their Spring Carnival with the annual Spotlight Members Millinery Evening. This year, Jill and Jack, Louise McDonald, Kim Wiebenga, Felicity Northeast, Studio Aniss, Philip Rhodes, Peter Jago and the Human Chameleon were showcased in a runway show and pop up market.

When I arrived, the champagne was already flowing and it was great to see people walking around with hat boxes. This event has always been a favourite of mine as it’s fantastic to see all my favourite milliners in one room and to try on all different shapes and sizes. For me, I try to plan my outfits first and then pair back a headpiece, however this night inspires me and I often work back from the headpiece to create the dream look.  Continue reading →

    • Royal Ascot – Day 5

Posted at 8:27 am by seekimber, on July 1, 2015

Today my Mum and I headed off to Royal Ascot for Day 5 of the event. I honestly don’t know how the Queen does it every day at the age of 89.. It took us 4 days to recover from Day 1!

The Friday and Saturday’s events were completely sold out so we were prepared for a long journey out to the track with our driver George. After 2 hours in the car, we were so excited to walk into the grounds again. Today were we dining in the Sandringham rooms, which faced out onto the track. This was perfect viewing to see our Aussie sprinter Brazen Beau in the Diamond Jubilee that afternoon. Continue reading →

    • Chadstone Fashion Stakes Final

Posted at 8:20 am by seekimber, on October 26, 2014

It has been a week and I am still finding it hard to put into words the excitement I felt when I was announced as the winner of Chadstone Fashions On The Field at the 2014 Caulfield Cup.

The lead up to the day was quite nerve racking. I’d won my way through to the final via Preview Day a few weeks earlier and I was stressing that my outfit might be trumped by someone on the day of the finals. The good thing about winning through earlier is that you can’t change anything about your outfit so you just have to trust what you have already put together and hope for the best.

    • The Culotte – Your new best friend

Posted at 9:01 am by seekimber, on September 8, 2014

My current fashion fixation is the Culotte. Not quite a skirt, not quite a pant – this fabulous floaty form is chic, a little bit sexy mixed with a hint of androgyny and my favourite look for this season.

It seems designers are having a similar love affair with culottes at the moment, with Balenciaga, Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler trying out the look this season. Even my favourite friends ASOS and Boohoo have jumped on board with their own cheap and chic versions.

This year I rocked the trend at Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, optioning for an all white look teamed with gold accessories. This look not only stood out in the crowd but was super comfortable. Gone are the days of the dreaded skirt getting caught up in the breeze!

Whilst playing around with Culottes, I learnt these 3 tricks: Continue reading →
