I have always been a huge fan of the man trend, especially when it comes to the races. Although its not always deemed appropriate  at the racecourse, I’m all for a Palazzo pant!

Last year at the Caulfield Guineas, I optioned to rock the pant and its still one of my favourite looks to date. Although they can be tricky to pull off, the key is to balance the pant with a structured top, giving you some shape. You do run the risk of looking like a sack otherwise!  Remember to tuck and belt to really complete the look. I went for a gold armour belt, which although wasn’t the most comfortable after a big luncheon, it certainly looked good!

Here are some other ladies rocking the trend

    • Your 10 shoes for Spring

Posted at 10:24 am by seekimber, on July 10, 2014

Carrie Bradshaw pretty much sums me up ‘I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!’ Its safe to say the shoe shopping for racing is my favourite part – finally an excuse to justify my shoe addiction.

    • Your creative edge

Posted at 3:44 am by seekimber, on June 25, 2014

I enjoy designing and making many of my own outfits, but I enjoy even more the thrill of finding that bargain dress or skirt that I can enhance with some creative DIY. I never feel bad attacking these pieces as I didn’t pay an arm and a leg for them.

I try to come up with a concept that is a little more unique and will stand out in the crowd. There is nothing worse than rocking up to a racecourse, feeling amazing and finding someone else wearing your exact same outfit. Your heart sinks.

To eliminate this stress, consider adding a detailed collar, attach an embellished necklace or broach, add a cape or even get your needle and thread out and start beading! Even inexperienced sewers can create something unique.

Finding a new racing outfit can be hard. We often find ourselves searching boutiques and online stores, but we so often forget whats already at home, hidden in the back of the wardrobe. I’m sure you have some hidden gems if you rummage.. I sure did!

    • My favourite word: Colour

Posted at 11:28 am by seekimber, on June 11, 2014

Although I live in black, white and grey in my day to day life, my racing alter ego is all about colour.. and the more the better! I’m not talking a Carmen Miranda lookalike wearing a dozen different colours, I try to keep to my 3 colour rule – as seen in my Do’s and Don’ts post.

This season its all about pastels paired back with bold, bright colours. Whether its in a floral print, geometric, stripe or solid two tone look, theres a combination for everyone. What colours will you pick?

      Be inspired by these looks

    • From Miss to Winner

Posted at 7:06 pm by seekimber, on June 6, 2014

Finding the right racing outfit isn’t easy, let me tell you I’ve had my fair share of fails! From my mums vintage ruffle top (think the Seinfield pirate shirt) to a short dress with cape back.. Its safe to say I learnt the do’s and don’ts pretty quickly after attempting my second racing event. Here are some helpful hints that I learnt along the way.

    • Where it all started

Posted at 2:20 am by seekimber, on May 25, 2014

Growing up, The Melbourne Cup carnival was the event on the social calendar. The TV coverage would be on all day and this is when I remember my first experience watching the girls walking the runway in the Fashions on the Field competition. The year I remember most, was when RMIT student, Sarah Schofield took out the prize. She was wearing an amazing unique black and white ‘pick up stick’ fascinator and had this beaming smile… she looked like an ad in Vogue.

A budding fashion student aspiring to study at RMIT, I thought I want to be that girl one day!
