Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival has always been a favourite carnival of mine and sadly I’ve missed attending the last couple of years. This year, I decided I wasn’t going to miss another Winter carnival and needed to attend at least one race day to satisfy my need for a Fashions On The Field competition. Stradbroke Day fell on a Melbourne long weekend so my mum and I decided it was time for a mini vacation to get away from the very cold Winter down south.
Stradbroke Day has a black and white theme with a touch of red, which makes the fashion really interesting as everyone always has a very different take. Last year, the winners wore very little red so most followed this lead and only went with a red accessory as their touch. I went for the more risky option of a red velvet turban, earrings and embellishment on my dress and some more daring people went for all red with black and white touches,
It was interesting to see what the judges would pick as so many amazing outfits were eliminated early on. The winner was wearing a stunning all red outfit with a touch of black and white, with the runner up wearing mostly white with red and black touches and I was thrilled to take out third place on the day!
Once again, Brisbane carnival put on another amazing event and the Queensland fashion never disappoints. I can’t wait to come up again next year.. or maybe I’ll try to come up for another Winter race day!
